The little known trace elements which are essential in the fight against anti-aging

Nutritional Sciences is increasingly interested the potential of certain micro-nutrients, which seem to be of particular importance in the fight against aging. The so-called anti-aging micronutrients are lipoic acid, and amino acid, carnitine.

Both lipoic acid and carnitine are produced naturally by the body by the normal metabolism of food, but what is particularly interesting for anti-aging researchers is that the body's ability the synthesis of these two compounds appear to decrease significantly with age advances.

Both lipoic acid and carnitine, the latter in particular are very important in the complex processes by which food is converted by the body with energy. Lipoic acid is also an important anti-oxidant, anti-free radicals which are a major cause of cell damage that can accelerate the aging process and even contribute to the onset degenerative diseases that are the source of so much misery in old age. Lipoic acid is eliminated very rapidly from blood plasma, some measure limits its value as an antioxidant in its own right. However, the fact that lipoic acid is readily absorbed by the cells of the body in this way may also be a sign of its importance for other functions. In addition, there is now strong evidence that lipoic acid supplementation may help to halt the decline of life in the cellular concentrations of vitamin C and glutathione, which are, respectively, the largest water and fat soluble antioxidants, and essential in the fight against aging.

Both lipoic acid and carnitine have also been considered crucial for the proper functioning of the cell mitochondria, the major producers of energy in the body. This is particularly relevant in the field the fight against aging heart is very densely populated with mitochondria, and this organ essential not only consumes enormous amounts energy, but is unable to store energy needs more minutes. The proper functioning of the heart, and thus life itself, is very largely dependent on the proper functioning of mitochondria, which is particularly vulnerable to decline rapidly with age.

The powerful antioxidant functions of lipoic acid appears to be important in protecting cells against mitochondrial damage, carnitine, while working to maintain the supply of energy metabolism in mitochondria in essential fatty acids are the main source of energy of the heart, metabolism which decreases significantly with age otherwise. But the potential anti-aging benefits of lipoic acid and carnitine does not end with the heart. lipoic acid, in particular, is now widely used by therapists to improve nutrition and nerve pain by diabetes, and there is evidence that carnitine may be useful in this regard. Experiments in aged animals, like rats and dogs have suggested that supplementation with carnitine and lipoic acid may also have significant effects in improving brain function, memory on especially in the short term, and it's not really surprising, since mitochondrial damage is strongly associated with age, dementia and diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

There is evidence that mitochondrial damage in brain cells may be largely due to increased activity of free radicals caused by the accumulation of excess iron, copper and other minerals that occur naturally in the body. Exciting, it appears that lipoic acid can actually reverse the buildup, restoring levels of these minerals to those found young animals. More than that, the ability of lipoic acid to remove excess metal that the body must be used in the elimination most harmful substances like lead and mercury, and suggests that the substance may present a more general capacity of detoxification, use, even in cases of acute poisoning and drug or alcohol damage.

Finally, it is now widely accepted that many cancers are found in diseases degeneration roots, becoming much more common as the population ages, and having their origins in damage long-term cells caused by free radical activity. Given this, it is estimated that the antioxidant function of lipoic acid, and role in stimulating the activity vitamins and glutathione, may also play an important role in the fight against cancer. Lipoic acid is also known to help activate many genes that are key weapons in this battle. It is acknowledged even by its advocates that much research remains to do, but these results are nonetheless interesting.

Despite all this, however, orthodox medicine is generally reluctant to approve the use of supplements of lipoic acid or carnitine, although it does not seem to be no concern about the toxicity anyone. sufficient doses appear to be about 100 mg, 300 mg of lipoic acid and 500 mg 1 – 000mg of carnitine. But Although these doses should be sufficient for the general anti-aging in healthy individuals, therapists and doctors often recommend nutritional intake much great for the treatment of certain diseases like diabetes and weight loss.

Glutathione?

Hello, I just received 250 mg L-Glutathione + 500 mg vitamin C. How Glutathione + Vitamin C should take one day? How Glutathione is one of vitamin C + one night and glutathione on the vitamin C + one night? thx! by the way my weight is 55 kg, I can not cause side effects? Tho I do smoke.

The levels are very high. As a smoker, you might consider taking further. A potentially better "source" (And cheaper) Glutathione is NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine), which becomes glutathione in the body. 1500 mg per day of NAC is a common dose of 'wellness' benefits. As a smoker you deplete your vitamin C, glutathione and other antioxidants quickly. Thus, higher doses may be appropriate. Top wishes and good luck.
