Kevin: Let's talk about raw food and vegan diet, and how it fits into this type of functional medicine.
Mark: Absolutely. I think we are all different and I do not think There is a one size fits all diet. Some people develop on a vegetarian diet. Other people are extraordinarily sick on a vegan diet or vegetarian. I have had many patients on raw foods and vegan diets are extremely malnourished. Then I saw people who manage well.
I think we should do what is good for everyone. So I do not think that the general recommendations are useful. So I think it depends where you live. If you live in Manitoba, a raw food diet is probably not the best thing. If you are living on the island in Fiji, is likely to succeed on a raw food diet. You also think locally, eat locally. I think it is a very important thing. What is local? This who is from your area? What is happening with their own biology and genetics and body. I think you should be careful if you make a raw food or vegan diet. It is easy to become undernourished and must supplement, I think, nutrients and be really smart.
